Funerals at Saint Mark’s Church

peace-lily

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”

John 3:16

Saint Mark’s Church is here to support you in these sorrowful times as well as the times of joy. Everyone who is resident in the Parish of Shelfield and High Heath is entitled to have their funeral service at Saint Mark’s Church, or we are happy to conduct your funeral service at a local crematorium chapel.

Whether church or crematorium you should make your wishes clear to your funeral director, and if you are at all unsure about how to proceed do speak to the Vicar. We are here to help; these times can be very confusing and busy, and we can assist you gently and with sensitivity.

A service in church lasts around 50 minutes and allows you the space and flexibility to say goodbye to your loved one in the way that is right for you. The service used is from Common Worship which uses modern language and is the authorised liturgy of The Church of England. A great deal of flexibility is built in and the Vicar or Lay Minister can help you to select readings, both scriptural and secular, music and organise eulogies that are meaningful to you and your family.

A service in the crematorium chapel lasts a maximum of 30 minutes and we will do our best to tailor the service to your needs within the framework of the authorised liturgy.

If you are a resident of Shelfield or High Heath at the time of your death or are on the Electoral Roll of Saint Mark’s Church, you have the right to have your ashes interred or be buried in Walsall Wood cemetery in Brookland Road. Former residents cannot be accepted into the graveyard. If you are unsure about your loved ones eligibility to be interred in Walsall Wood speak to the Vicar for clarification.

Saint Mark’s Church will continue to support you in your bereavement for as long as you need us and the Vicar or Lay Minister are always available to spend time with you.

We will pray for you and your loved ones as you grieve, and you will be invited to join us at certain times of year for our memorial services in church.
