The Morning Praise service at St Mark’s
“Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with clanging cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!”
Well we haven’t quite got the clanging and clashing cymbals, or the trumpets, lutes and harps - well not yet anyway! What we do have on every first Sunday in the month at 10.00 a.m. is our Morning Praise Service.
Morning Praise is a very relaxed All-Age service particularly suitable for families and children.
This service makes use of our data projector, so no hymn or service books to worry about. We aim to make the language used in the service accessible to all and we usually have more modern songs played on the piano with the occasional traditional hymn.
The Sermon slot sometimes involves an activity - recent ones have been tying knots, planting seeds and the occasional fun quiz linked to the theme of the day.
We sit down for most of the service, so no getting up and down, we just stand for the first and last hymn.
If we have had a baptism in the last couple of weeks families often come along for “The Welcome” and for the newly baptized to receive a lit candle among their new Christian family.
We aim to make it relaxed and informal, but also to honour God within this act of worship.
The service lasts for about 40-45 minutes.
